Dessert Recipes 101
Why save the best for last? Eat Dessert first! Well, at least once in a while.
On a resent family outing, we did just that! First, we stopped in at a tasty donut shop, and enjoyed a little snack. Then we went across the street to a grand hamburger house for the main course, and then ended it all with a trip down the strip to an ice cream parlor!
We don’t always behave in such a gluttonous manner, but the spontaneity of it was rather fun! And, since it was all my husbands idea, I didn’t want to make a fuss, you know. Oh yes, I think submission can be a beautiful thing.
But one thing I know for sure, dessert is always a beautiful thing! Whether large or small; cold or hot; simply presented or masterfully executed; dessert always hits the spot. Welcome, to LearnDesserts.com where you can learn to prepare the best dessert food recipes.
Noah Webster (from his 1828, first edition of American Dictionary of the English Language) puts it like this: DESSERT’, n. A service of fruits and sweetmeats, at the close of an entertainment; the last course at the table, after the meat is removed. Sweetmeat, he defined as: Fruit preserved with sugar; as peaches, pears, melons, nuts, orange peel, and the like.
It is recorded in my family history that my great, great grandmother always kept honey or citron preserves on the table with biscuits for the grandchildren and visitors. A sweet and simple southern hospitality recorded for us to glean from.
I don’t know if my kitchen is all that different, really. I keep a bowl of fresh fruit just to the right of my coffee bar which houses an individualized coffee machine, a variety of sweeteners, (Starbucks coffee syrups included) and rarely will you stroll through my kitchen without seeing jars of tempting Italian biscotti. After all, the biscotti is Italian for “biscuit”.
I really do believe dessert, whether served with a meal as the last course(or the first), to be one of the most pleasant and comforting things to offer anyone. We are so very blessed these days to have so many fine choices for creating the best desserts.
